Heritage Preservation in Ancaster

HOW CAN ANCASTER’S 40 NEWLY REGISTERED HISTORIC BUILDINGS EXPEDITIOUSLY RECEIVE DESIGNATED HERITAGE BUILDING STATUS?

Project Description: City Council recently approved adding 40 properties in historic Ancaster to the City’s list of registered heritage buildings. But saving these buildings from potential demolition still requires moving them from registered status to designated status. At present, only eight or ten can move through that process per year. How can the process be modified to speed it up? Which properties should get priority in the process and why?

Students could review processes and suggest modifications; and/or assess and prioritize the 40 buildings; and/or assist with bringing some of the properties to Council or the Heritage Committee for designation.
