Open for Matching: Making Performance Data Useful

How can we make infrastructure performance data easier for staff to use in everyday decision making?

Project Description: The Corporate Asset Management Division within Public Works supports planning and decision making for Public Works infrastructure and services. Performance measures and data currently exist but they are not always used in decision making. Staff have concerns that performance information is difficult to interpret and apply to planning, budgeting, and operational decisions. This project aims how to make performance measurement more practical, user friendly, and actionable.

Students would support this work by:

  • Researching best practices from other municipalities and organizations

  • Engaging with staff to understand needs

  • Developing simple, user  friendly tools or frameworks (e.g., dashboards, templates, or guidance materials)

The goal is to improve how performance information is understood and used to support better decision making across the organization.
